Alain Menu claimed a lights to flag victory starting from pole position and resisting the pressure from local hero Norbert Michelisz.
In the first laps Michelisz, cheered by the huge crowd, was able to close on the Chevrolet man; however as laps went by Menu seemed to be in total control and managed to maintain a safe leading margin until the end.
Behind the leading trio there was an exciting battle for third position between Gabriele Tarquini, Javier Villa, Yvan Muller and Rob Huff. Until the final laps the Italian was able to keep his rivals at bay, performing another great defensive drive like the one that was worth a win in Zolder. However on the last lap Villa managed to muscle his way to the final spot of the podium.
Muller and Huff benefitted from the situation and demoted Tarquini to sixth.
Tiago Monteiro, Fredy Barth (in the best of the SUNRED cars), Kristian Poulsen and Pepe Oriola rounded up the top ten.
Race 2
Reigning world champion Yvan Muller claimed his first victory of the season managing to survive a race full of drama, that was suspended by the red flag when torrential rain flooded the track.
Just before the red flags were waved, Gabriele Tarquini performed an extraordinary overtaking manoeuvre to take the lead, passing Coronel and Menu on the outside. When the race resumed, the Italian desperately tried to defend the leadership, but he could do nothing to prevent Muller and Rob Huff from finishing first and second. Eventually he settled with a well deserved third position.
Tom Coronel finished fourth, after a long fight with Tiago Monteiro and Michel Nykjær, but he was also involved in the incident that eliminated Menu after the restart.
Robert Dahlgren was impressive on the wet track and could have claimed the best result for Volvo; however he was involved in two different contacts -- with Monteiro and Oriola -- and received a drive-through that demoted him from fourth to ninth.
Franz Engstler put in a great performance, recovering on the wet track to finish sixth overall and best of the Yokohama Trophy drivers.
